Butler County Fire Chiefs Association - Butler County, Kansas
This website is dedicated to the men and women of the Butler County Fire Departments. History The Butler County Fire Chiefs Association was formed in 1994 following the tremendous wildfires that swept the western portion of our county. Our county is geographically the largest county in the State of Kansas with 1,443 square miles, or 923,520 acres. Twenty-five percent of the county is in cropland and fifty percent of the county is used for grazing. Butler County is served by a total of 9 Butler County Fire Districts, 4 City Fire Departments, 1 Cowley County Fire District, 1 Consolidated Fire District and Frontier Refinery Fire Department in El Dorado. All of the fire departments within Butler County have signed mutual aid agreements and several have automatic response agreements in the event of structure fires. The fire departments are primarily staffed with professional volunteers with the exception of the cities of El Dorado, Augusta, Rose Hill and Andover who utilize a combination of paid and volunteer professionals. Due to their leadership and foresight, the citizens of Butler County benefit from the agreements, burning restrictions, fire codes, and better equipment. The Butler County Fire Chiefs Association meet approximately every quarter. Different fire departments take turns hosting the meetings. The Chairman for 2007 is Ray Marbut (Fire District #2 - Augusta Department of Public Safety). Vice Chairman is Jim Shaver (Andover Fire Department). If you have any questions on your local fire department, please contact them at the non-emergency numbers listed. Fire Departments that have email access can be reached by clicking on the name of the fire department.
Think before you burn. Did you call your fire department first? Is it too windy? Do you have water to control it? Are you too close to a road or a structure? You can reach us on the web at:
